A summer with JAW
Our Intern, Will, has written us a blog about his time here at JAW!
"Eleven weeks ago, I arrived at The Trampery to start my internship with JAW. After graduating from civil and environmental engineering, JAW seemed like the perfect place to learn more about sustainability in the construction industry.
During my time at JAW I have been able to work on a range of different projects. I spent some time updating some of JAW’s assessment tools to meet BREEAM international standards in anticipation for JAW’s first international project. I also investigated JAW’s project history to carry out an analysis of past projects, to add extra information to the company’s strategic decisions. Not to mention getting out of the office to visit sites and collect data for energy assessments or to meet with architects and project managers in the design stage. Most exciting of all I was given the opportunity to work on JAW’s research and development project, focused on adaption to climate change.
Working at JAW has shown me what it is like to work in a small, motivated and fun business, which has set a new bar for what to expect from a workplace! On the technical side, I have learned a great deal about how sustainability is implemented in the construction sector and the application of critical areas such as BREEAM, SAPs and EPCs.
Overall it has been a brilliant experience, having the opportunity to take on several projects and the responsibility to manage them myself has been both instructive and rewarding. Most of all Lucy, Jess and Charlie have been so welcoming that from the very first week I felt like part of the team, and what a team to be a part of.
I’d like to say a massive thank you to JAW for having me and I am excited to see what they have planned for the future as they grow!"
Thank you for all of your hard work Will, your presence will be missed at JAW.
